Derek has founded multiple organizations that have measurably improved hundreds of collaborative efforts across a broad range of industries.

He has found that change initiatives don’t tend to fail because of implementing the wrong process, but from disconnects between performance needs and the psychological constraints of adaptation. Derek applies principles of human cognition and cybernetics to bridge these gaps.

Derek is an industry-recognized speaker and educator, appearing at forums including the International Simulation and Gaming Association, Lean-Kanban France, and The Science of Team Science. 

Derek serves on the Board of Directors for Simulation Australasia and has served on the Board of Directors for the Agile Leadership Network. He is also a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor; these have more relevance to organizational behavior than he ever expected.
